Dirk Braun is an American filmmaker based between the United States and France. His work moves between documentary and narrative cinema, drawn to stories of exploration, history, and human ambition.
Braun’s films often unfold in environments shaped by land, air, and sea, where landscape and atmosphere become central elements of the narrative. His approach combines strong visual storytelling with an interest in character psychology and dialogue, exploring the inner motivations of individuals whose lives intersect with aviation, the ocean, or moments of historical change.
His films include Flying Boat, which follows the pilots preserving the last airworthy Grumman Albatross amphibious aircraft, End of the Road, a portrait of underwater photographer Ben Thouard at Teahupo’o in Tahiti, and Operation Babylift, which examines the evacuation of Vietnamese children during the final days of the Vietnam War.
